1 Good Decision, 1 Bad Decision in the LCS'

The Good

The good decision was Cleveland Indian's Manager Eric Wedge pulling starter Jake Westbrook in the seventh inning of a two run game for rookie reliever Jensen Lewis.

I know it seems like an obvious decision; however, how many managers would make that decision? (see: The Grady Little Game.) Managers now more then ever leave their starting pitcher out to blow a game more times than they go to young relievers.

Of course, this move paid off for Wedge's team as Lewis got Pedroia to strike out swinging. The Indians went on to win the game 4-2 over the Red Sox.

The Bad

The bad decision came in the NLCS, as Bob Melvin choose to throw Micah Owings in game 4 of the series against the Rockies.

Now, I do not usually support throwing guys on three days rest; however, unless you have a deep staff (i.e. the 2004 Red Sox) and Micah Owings and his 4.30 ERA for the season does not put fear into a lineup.

I could be wrong about the decision and it might work out for the D-backs like it did for the Red Sox. However, I trust Cy Young candidate Brandon Webb on three days rest more than Owings in a big game.
